ART 8 8th graders in Art 8 meet everyday for one quarter (10 weeks) to explore a general art experience. Student work revolves around a specific artist, art medium or unit theme . Our goal is to familiarize our students with a variety of artists and artwork from different time periods and various cultural backgrounds. Teaching kids to analyze and interpret art and to form an educated opinion is an important component of critical thinking skills. Art techniques are scaffolded- beginning with simple, introductory exercises and culminate in a piece of art that has been brainstormed, developed, executed and presented. Developing art skills is crucial in creating a satisfactory and successful visual of the formulated idea. Assignments range from 1-4 weeks in length and are a combination of 2D and 3D art mediums.
GRADING Assignments are scored out of a possible 100 pts (weighted 70%). Each assignment also has an effort/participation grade that is a possible 100 pts (weighted 30%). Students will also complete common formative assessments, artist statements and/or reflections.
